Probing dark energy and gravity models with galaxy and peculiar velocity surveys
Dark energy is a known unknown of our current cosmological model, needed to explain the observed accelerated expansion of the Universe. However, it is also possible that Einstein’s general relativity is simply broken on large cosmological scales. Precise measurements of the expansion rate of the Universe as well as the growth rate of large-scale structures can potentially disentangle between dark energy models or modified gravity theories. I will overview the status of galaxy and peculiar velocity surveys and how to measure the growth of structures. Then I will present work in progress towards combining galaxies from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument and type-Ia supernovae from the Zwicky Transient Facility to answer such fundamental questions.
