Astronomy is a growing discipline. In the 21st century we may learn about the nature and composition of dark energy and dark matter, and we may discover other Earths around other stars.
Astrophysics is a multidisciplinary science whose tools are physics, mathematics, chemistry, geophysics, biology, etc. Astrophysics also uses and develops many advanced technologies. A course in astrophysics therefore offers a very broad spectrum of skills.
The LAM leads the teaching of astrophysics at Aix-Marseille University. The LAM is also a major player in the teaching of optics and instrumentation. In addition, LAM professors participate in general physics and mathematics courses at all levels (Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate). The LAM is also involved in the teaching of the graduate schools of three institutes: the Institut de Physique de l’Univers (IPhU), the Institute Marseille Imaging (Marseille Imaging), and the Institut Origines.
Each year, the LAM offers students the opportunity to do undergraduate or graduate internships within its teams.
